Update 6:14pm: Governor Hochul says she has deployed the NYS Police and other agencies to help in Oneida County. As the heat index rose and the potential for storms grew, a tornado has been confirmed in Rome, NY - just north of Utica. Photos from the scene show a church with its roof and steeple torn off, numerous downed trees and power lines, overturned vehicles - even a B-52 bomber on display at the Air Force base was moved by the strong winds.

Man killed with his own gun after fight breaks out among players at Central NY softball tournament
Rome, N.Y. — A recreational softball player was shot and killed Sunday in a postgame struggle with an opposing player over an illegal gun, Rome police said. Theodore J. Chrystie, 34, of Greig, died Tuesday from a gunshot in the neck, police said. He was shot with his own gun, police told the Rome-Sentinel.

Two Broome County Fire Departments Receive Federal Funds
Two fire departments in the Southern Tier have been awarded a portion of nearly $1.5 million in federal funding that will be used for gear, training, and more. Senators Schumer and Gillibrand announced that $1,478,994.39 has been awarded to a total 16 fire departments across the state. The two Southern Tier fire departments that received money are the Village of Whitney Point Fire Department and the City of Binghamton Fire Department.
