Texas Law Offers Safe Haven for Newborns: Understanding the Baby Moses Law
HOUSTON, Texas - The Harris County Sheriff's Office is raising awareness about the Baby Moses Law, a Texas statute that provides a safe and compassionate option for parents in crisis to surrender their newborns without fear of legal repercussions. Under the Baby Moses Law, parents can safely hand over infants up to 60 days old at designated safe havens, such as hospitals, fire stations, and EMS stations, where the child will receive the care and protection they need. The law is designed to offer a lifeline to parents who may feel overwhelmed and see no other options, ensuring that their child is left in a secure environment. "There are no questions asked, and no fear of prosecution," the Harris County Sheriff's Office emphasized in a statement. "Help is available, and no one should face these challenges alone." For those needing assistance, support is just a phone call away at 1-800-252-5400 or through resources available on the Texas Health and Human Services website at hhs.texas.gov.
