Temporary disaster exemption for derecho damage can offer lower taxes for Harris County property owners
When the derecho raged through Houston in May, the force of winds going 100 mph ripped roofs off of homes, smashed windows and killed at least eight people. Video surveillance has recently emerged of stray dogs viciously tearing cars apart at a Houston area dealership! According to abc13, two dogs tore apart vehicles at G Motors, a northwest Harris County car dealership off Cypress Creek Parkway. Briones hold ‘virtual listening tour’ session for Harris County Precinct 4 residents
Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones and her staff conducted a “virtual listening tour” session via a Zoom call for residents of the precinct on August 15. Briones held 12 in-person listening sessions throughout the precinct last year, including two at the Katy campus of Houston Community College, 22910 Colonial Parkway. She will hold four in-person sessions in 2024, with the next on September 14, and one additional virtual session.

As the Houston Independent School District approaches the $4.4 billion bond election, a new Kinder Institute survey shows that a majority of HISD voters generally support it as long as it doesn't increase taxes.By the numbers: Support for the bond remained unchanged from January, when the Kinder Institute conducted a similar poll.When surveyed in July and August, 76% of in-district respondents signaled their support for a school bond that does not result in a tax increase.
