    Prosecutors argue Madigan's case continues

Federal prosecutors are rejecting the notion that charges against former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan should be tossed because of a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling. The justices found that a statute criminalizing bribery among state and local officials does not also criminalize after-the-fact rewards known as gratuities. Madigan, accused of reaping the benefits of private legal work that was illegally steered to his law firm, faces bribery and racketeering charges.

    Report on Harrisburg youth center

Amid reports of disparaging remarks and staff provocation at Illinois Youth Center in Harrisburg are reports that some youth felt they could get issues addressed by speaking with administrators they trust. That’s according to a report from prison watchdog group the John Howard Association. Their report also highlighted staffing concerns, teacher vacancies and problems with violence between youth.

    Child labor law updates

Gov. J.B. Pritzker has signed into law the Child Labor Law of 2024, which updates child labor regulations to the 21st century by repealing the existing statute and replacing it with a modern framework. The law is intended to provide a structure for minors to engage in safe, age-appropriate work, while protecting their health and access to education. The bill also sets standards for working conditions for children aged 15 and younger, including limiting hours of work and updating the list of jobs that minors cannot hold.
