Nine nonprofit organizations have been awarded grants from the PPL Foundation.

The Powering Equity Grants total more than $60,000 and are for programs aiding underserved communities in Pennsylvania’s Southwest region. The nine nonprofit organizations are in Berks, Dauphin, Juniata, Perry, Cumberland, York, Lebanon, Lancaster, and Chester counties.

“The PPL Foundation’s grants help build stronger, more equitable communities where all are respected, valued and free to reach their full potential,” Regional Affairs Director for PPL Electric Utilities Kelly Palmer said in a statement. “Central and eastern Pennsylvania are filled with wonderful nonprofit organizations, and we’re proud to support their efforts to improve lives and promote greater equity and inclusion in the communities we serve.”

The Powering Equity grants were awarded to ASSETS Lancaster; IM ABLE Foundation, Wyomissing; LEAF Project, Landisburg; Nathaniel Gadsen’s Writers Wordshop, Harrisburg; Pennsylvania CASA; Servant Stage Company, Strasburg; United Way of Berks County, Reading; United Way of Lancaster County; and YWCA Lancaster.

The awards complete the first of three planned grant programs for 2024. Funds from the first round will be used to facilitate community conversations on diversity and inclusion, improve equity in access to higher education, and support innovation and entrepreneurship among underrepresented residents in our communities.

PPL Foundation’s next round of grants Empowering Communities focuses on programs supporting environmental stewardship and education, economic development, and workforce development.

Applications for Empowering Communities grants are being accepted through June 15.

Nearly $1 million in grants is expected to be awarded in 2024 by the PPL Foundation to support education. diversity, equity and inclusion, and sustainable communities. The four groups represent the foundation’s focus areas.
