HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — A gun was found inside a traveler’s bag Monday at Harrisburg International Airport, officials announced.

Transportation Security Officers detected the 9mm handgun when the Virginia man entered a security checkpoint where the gun set off an X-ray unit, TSA said in a news release. Police where then notified and confiscated the gun.

There was also a loaded magazine that was packed inside the man’s carry-on items.

“Bringing guns to checkpoints is a serious security violation and this individual can expect to receive a federal fine that will be in the thousands of dollars,” TSA’s Federal Security Director for the airport Karen Keys-Turner said.

This was the second firearm that was detected by TSA at the airport checkpoint this year, the release says.

Firearms can be brought on flights in checked baggage as long as they are not loaded and packed in a hard-sided case. More details on how to properly pack a firearm to board a flight can be found on TSA’s website .
