HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — A day after the company promised to fix an alarm system that kept neighbors awake at night, in some cases for months, Family Dollar said — and an abc27 News crew on the scene confirmed — a contractor was working to fix the system.

A company spokesperson said Wednesday two contractors — one from an alarm company plus a general-trades contractor — were working to resolve the issue. An abc27 camera could see a contractor working on the exterior speaker neighbors said had been blaring overnight for months — first occasionally, then almost night.

Neighbors hoped quick fixes after abc27 first contacted Family Dollar Tuesday would stop the alarm from sounding that night, but at about 11:30 p.m., they sent abc27 News a new recording of the alarm made from a terraces. A strobe light, which appeared related to the alarm, was visible at the store.

The neighbors said they had complained to store-level employees for months, but corporate leaders appeared unaware of the issue when abc27 News first contacted them Tuesday.

A Family Dollar spokesperson said the company wants to be a good neighbor.

“We sincerely apologize it wasn’t handled sooner,” the spokesperson said.
