HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — The Dauphin County DA’s Office ruled that the use of deadly force in the June 9 shooting in Harrisburg was justified.

abc27 news reported back on June 9 when a Harrisburg Police officer fatally shot and killed Kendrell Hall , 22, after he opened fire on police and a Capitol K9 officer. The incident had taken place near the 200 block of South Street around 1:30 a.m.

As a result of the incident, Capitol Police K9 Rex was injured and Hall was killed.

According to Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo, following a review of the use of deadly force, they believe that Hall presented an immediate threat to themselves and others if deadly force was not used.

“Both officers were very fortunate. Hall’s pistol was set to discharge as an automatic weapon when it jammed upon firing in the alley,” the Dauphin County DA’s Office said. “If it had not jammed, there is a fair probability that the officers would have been wounded or killed.”

It is important to note that the investigation revealed that witnesses corroborated the accounts of police officers. Specifically, witnesses says they heard officers give verbal commands to “get on the ground”, and “drop the gun”, before any shots were fired.

After shots were fired by police, officers attempted life-saving measures on Hall.
