Lex Cyrus commits to South Carolina football

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — In a decision that came down to the 11th hour for star wide receiver Lex Cyrus, the Susquehanna Township speedster chose the Gamecocks over the Nittany Lions.

The Susquehanna Township rising senior is headed to South Carolina to play football at the next level, and told the media after making the announcement in the school auditorium that his decision between the two really came down to the wire.

“Super close,” Cyrus said. “Really talking to both coaching staffs up until last night too, even this morning.”

Ultimately, Cyrus chose to join the Gamecocks and take on SEC Football as his family watched on to support him.

“I was a little nervous at the beginning, but just seeing everybody that supports me on a daily basis that I talk to all the time just out here for me it just made it easier.”

Cyrus, a two sport star for Hanna — he was a 2023 PIAA state champion in the 100 meter dash — believes he brings much more to the table than just elite speed.

“Other than speed man just being an all around playmaker and great leader and teammate for the team,” Cyrus said. “That’s the program that needs it so I want to go there and change it around.”

“I want to win,” Cyrus said. “I feel like we’re going to be a great program when I get there.”

Cyrus still has his senior football and track and field seasons to enjoy at Susquehanna Township this coming school year before heading down to South Carolina for the 2025 season.
