MASON COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man is behind bars after he violently attacked a woman.

On July 20, 2024, at approximately 10 pm, Officer Turner was dispatched to Hartford, WV, in response to a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, Officer Turner encountered a male, later identified as David Denkenberger, outside the residence of Apartment 317. Mr. Denkenberger reported that a woman inside was bleeding from her head due to a headbutt.

After entering the apartment, Officer Turner inquired about the incident, and Mr. Denkenberger explained that they had been playing around and had headbutted each other.

At that moment, the victim stated, “No, he punched me.” Officer Turner detained Mr. Denkenberger and placed him in the patrol vehicle.

The officer then entered the apartment and found the female victim in the kitchen with a towel pressed against her head, which was soaked with blood. When asked, she removed the towel, revealing a bleeding wound on her head.

Officer Turner questioned the victim about what had transpired. She explained that she had heard banging on her door, and when she opened it, Mr. Denkenberger forced his way in and began shouting at her. She backed away into her bedroom without turning her back on him, and Mr. Denkenberger followed, continuing to yell at her. The victim stated that he kept yelling, “Say it again,” and she was confused about what he was talking about before he became physically violent.

She indicated that Mr. Denkenberger had at one point placed his hands around her neck, leaving visible marks, pulled her hair, shook her head, and dragged her through the hallway by her hair.

At some point during the altercation, he punched her in the head, which caused the bleeding.

While being dragged through the hallway, she stated that she yelled for her two daughters to call 911.

Officer Turner observed the residence and located the bedroom where Mr. Denkenberger indicated the violent incident had started. He noticed a trail of blood beginning in the bedroom, continuing through the hallway, into the bathroom, and ending in the kitchen, where he found the victim.

Officer Turner then spoke to Mr. Denkenberger about the incident, read him his Miranda rights, and stated that they were in the bedroom where it was dark and that they had headbutted each other.

Officer Turner subsequently placed Mr. Denkenberger under arrest and transported him to Mason Metro for processing and later to Western Regional.
