Two Connecticut high schools were locked down on Thursday after reported threats.

A student may face charges after a school in Bloomfield was locked down when police say the teen bragged about having a firearm.

Officers responded to Bloomfield High School upon receiving the report and were able to make contact with the suspected student, who was not found with a weapon at that time, according to the Bloomfield Police Department .

Police said they used a K-9 to search the building the school and its grounds to ensure a gun was not hidden when the school was placed into lockdown. No weapon was found, according to police.

Police said they believe the student only boasted about having a firearm and tricked other students into believing it.

The building was cleared by authorities at 2:15 p.m. Police said all students were dismissed once the lockdown was lifted.

Police are still investigating and said they may bring charges against the student who claimed to have a gun.

Windsor High School was placed on a “Code Red” lockdown due to a reported threat involving a student, according to a letter from Superintendent Dr. Terrell Hill.

According to Hill, a student overheard a concerning comment between two students and reported it to a teacher. The teacher then notified the School Resource Officer, who flagged it to administrators and the Windsor Police Department.

“WPD officers were on the scene and actively investigating when I arrived at WHS alongside Chief (Donald) Melanson, where we were briefed on the situation,” Hill said.

The students involved were identified and questioned, according to Hill. He said no weapons were found on them, in their backpacks or anywhere in the building.

After the threat was resolved, the school transitioned to “Code Yellow,”  to allow students and educators to resume normal teaching and inside activities while maintaining “heightened vigilance,” according to Hill.

“I take full responsibility for the timing of the communications sent out today. We are continuously working to improve our real-time updates to families in situations like these,” Hill said.

“The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority,” he added. “We greatly appreciate the swift response from our staff and the Windsor Police Department.”
