A man is facing charges after police allege he shot a woman in Hartford early Saturday morning, officials said.

Derrick Britt, 31, of Hartford, has been arrested and charged with first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm and illegal discharge of a firearm, police said.

On Saturday around 1:46 a.m., Hartford police officers responded to the area of 675 Wethersfield Ave. for a report of a shooting. Responding officers said they found an adult woman suffering from a nonfatal gunshot wound. Investigators said they quickly located evidence on scene and Britt was apprehended a short time later. Police said the woman was known to Britt.

The woman was transported to a local hospital where she is being treated for her injuries, according to police.
