Police have charged a second suspect in connection with a robbery in Waterbury over the summer that led to a man being shot.

Brett Foster, 29, of New Haven, was taken into custody on Thursday after investigators obtained a warrant for his arrest, according to Lt. Ryan Bessette of the Waterbury Police Department .

He faces charges of first-degree assault with a firearm, first-degree robbery with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, criminal possession of a firearm/ammunition, criminal possession of a pistol or revolver, carrying a pistol without a permit and illegal operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

Foster is the second person to be charged in connection with a robbery reported on Aug. 17 at 21 William St., police said. During the incident, a 30-year-old Waterbury man was shot. He received treatment for his injuries, which were not considered life-threatening.

The police department’s Criminal Investigation Division investigated the robbery and identified two suspects as Foster and 24-year-old Joshua Rodriguez of Waterbury, according to police.

Rodriguez was arrested on Sept. 9 on robbery, conspiracy and assault charges, police said.

Bessette noted that both suspects are convicted felons who are prohibited from having guns or ammunition. He said both men remain held in custody.
