HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Local, state and federal leaders met at the Hartford Public Library on Thursday to discuss possible solutions for the homelessness crisis in Connecticut.

Over 4,800 people experienced homelessness in Connecticut in the month of June.

“Investing in people is as important as investing in bricks and mortar,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn) said at the event. “And that’s what I’m hearing from these leaders who deal with homelessness day in and day out.”

The meeting comes after the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that allows cities and towns to prohibit people who are homeless from camping or sheltering on public property.

Advocates say the increased homeless population underscore a need for more federal aid, resources and housing support.
