Billboards hope to shine light on missing Indigenous people in Minnesota
MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Department of Public Safety unveiled a new series of billboards meant to raise awareness about missing Indigenous relatives in the state.Eight billboards feature eight missing Indigenous people from Minnesota: Leo Coleman Cortez, Kateri Mishow, Mato Dow, Nevaeh Kingbird, Melissa Eagle Shield, Melissa Burt, Jeremy Jourdain and April Geyer.The DPS says the billboards can be seen in Minneapolis, Burnsville, Shoreview, Mounds View, Maplewood and Columbus Township.The Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (MMIR) office worked with Missing Children Minnesota and Clear Channel Communication on the billboards. Waseca Legion downs Marshall to open sub-state tournament
The Waseca Senior Legion baseball team began postseason play Wednesday afternoon in New Ulm when they faced off against Marshall, who served as the home team in the game. A strong pitching performance from Sabastian Teague and aggressive baserunning performance led Waseca to earn a 6-2 victory to advance in the tournament. Westbound detour on I-90 at Hwy 105 scheduled in Austin
(ABC 6 News) — According to MnDOT, one more detour is coming on Interstate 90 on Austin’s west end. Westbound I-90 motorists near the Highway 105/Oakland Avenue bridge will be detoured up the exit and down the entrance ramps overnight on July 29th as crews set the decking material on the new bridge beams.

Bacteria levels lead to Lake Kohlmier closure
Lake Kohlmier in Owatonna will be closed until further notice due to high bacteria levels from test results received on July 25, 2024. According to a city press release, levels in a lake fluctuate based on various factors such as heavy rain or wind, time of day, amount of people visiting the beach, beach wildlife, and physical characteristics of the beach. No specific cause for the spike in bacteria has been identified.

The 38th annual Cannon Cruisers Country Cruise will be Friday, Aug. 2, with some changes compared to prior years. This year, the lineup for the event will be at Cannon Falls High School beginning at 5 p.m. instead of starting at Artisan Plaza. The cruise starts at 7 p.m. with an end time of 8 p.m. back at CFHS.
City of Rochester sends out survey to improve city
ROCHESTER, Minn. - The City of Rochester is looking to see how to make it a better town and that's why they're having a National Community Survey where residents can respond. This week they sent out postcards to 4,200 households in Rochester. They'll have 10 categories of questions and some questions include: Safety, Natural Environment and Mobility. On Aug.11-25 it will be available for everyone on the National Community Survey page.
Lonsdale Community Days grand marshal announced
Scott Pelava, owner of Lonsdale Auto Works, was chosen as the 2024 grand marshal for Lonsdale Community Days, happening on Saturday, August 10. Pelava opened Lonsdale Auto Works in 2005, providing service to the Lonsdale area for 19 years so far. He has been an active member of the Lonsdale Area Chamber of Commerce (LACC), serving two terms on the board of directors for them. Chamber Executive Director Shanna Gutzke-Kopp says that he has been “constructively working with staff, committee members & business leaders.”
