Waterbury Kids take the Seven Days Good Citizen Challenge
Ten-year-old Susannah Rye of Waterbury has had a busy summer. In June, shortly after classes ended, she set out to complete all 25 activities in the Good Citizen Challenge, a nonpartisan youth civics project organized by Burlington-based Seven Days newspaper. The Challenge invites kids in grades K through 8 to complete activities that teach them about their community and show them ways to get involved.
NWS Investigating Possible Tornado in Upstate New York
More tornadoes touched down in New York, making them the 27th and 28th so far this year. The severe storms that blew over New York late Sunday brought heavy rain, hail, and in some places, a tornado. The National Weather Service is trying to figure out just how many touched down last weekend.

Spiritual director training continues in Diocese of Burlington
In an effort to increase the availability of trained spiritual directors in the Diocese of Burlington, a first-ever spiritual director training program facilitated by the Oblates of the Virgin Mary was launched and is moving into its second year. Thirteen men and women — including a number of deacons and one priest — recently completed Year One of the three-year program.
Rediscovering Lost Flora: The Extinction of a Native New Hampshire Crabgrass
In 1901, several peculiar specimens of crabgrass were discovered on the rocky slopes of Rock Rimmon in Manchester, New Hampshire. Initially thought to belong to the species known as slender crabgrass (Digitaria filiformis), the slender, wiry plants with small, delicate spikelets were only known from this single location. But by 1931, they were last collected from the area, and the grass has not been observed since. Recently, UNH’s Albion R. Hodgdon Herbarium, which holds three of the last known remaining dried specimens of the grass, played a key role in identifying these plants as their own unique species, Digitaria laeviglumis, commonly known as smooth crabgrass.

Police ask for help locating 2 runaway juveniles
BERKSHIRE, Vt. (WCAX) - Vermont State Police are asking the public for help finding two runaway juveniles. Troopers in the St. Albans barracks were called Sunday morning to help locate Jenna Brady, 16, of Berkshire, who is believed to be with another runaway juvenile, Alex St. John, 17, also of Berkshire.
