Iowa State's offseason last summer was not ideal. A gambling scandal sprung a surprise on the roster and cost the Cyclones a number of important players. They managed to avoid danger against the FCS's Northern Iowa, which has beaten Matt Campbell's team and scared it two other times, but they couldn't avoid the somewhat frequent non-conference landmine. Iowa State plays Iowa every year -- the COVID season was an exception -- and is 1-6 against the rival under Campbell. That includes a loss last season, but last season also included a loss to Ohio to go alongside 2020's head-scratcher against Louisiana-Lafayette.

Rock Valley man injured in crash of semi
HAWARDEN—A 43-year-old Rock Valley man was injured in a one-vehicle crash about 4:05 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, on Highway 10, four miles east of Hawarden. Pieter Hanekom was driving a 2009 Peterbilt semitruck east when he said a tire ruptured, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, which entered the north ditch and rolled onto the driver’s side, according to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.
Man arrested for intox at pool in George
GEORGE—A 44-year-old George man was arrested about 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, on a charge of public intoxication. The arrest of Michael Dean Ubbinga stemmed from complaints from lifeguards, parents and children that he was acting inappropriately at the George Swimming Pool, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
Bailey Lux Visited Her Two Favorite Basketball Stars For Her Make-A-Wish
Bailey Lux, the 14-year-old warrior from Carroll was reunited with her two favorite basketball stars during the Indiana Fever and Las Vegas Aces game last (Tuesday) night. Lux, who has been battling MPNST Sarcoma for the past two years, discovered in May after starting a low dose oral chemo, that the treatment was not effective and the cancer spread very quickly since the last scans. Bailey’s father, Kraig Lux, often referred to as Kj, says she is now entering a new chapter of the fight, chemo free.
