(KWTX) - Recently, over 100 earthquakes were recorded in only 9 days in West Texas. Most of these earthquakes originated just east of Snyder Texas. The strongest earthquake was a 5.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred on July 26th. In this week’s Degrees of Science we are talking with Dr. Peter Hennings, the Principal Investigator for the Center for Injection and Seismicity Research at the Bureau of Economic Geology (at the University of Texas at Austin). Dr. Hennings talks about the science of how these earthquakes are induced by oil field activity across the Permian Basin, and the work being done to learn more about these earthquakes and how to prevent them.
