    Hartville appoints former councilwoman to fill council vacancy

    Monday meeting

    KEY ACTION: Council appointed former village Councilwoman Kelly Reis to fill the seat of Councilwoman Shari Chambers, who resigned July 9.

    DISCUSSION: Council selected Reis from among three candidates by 4-1 vote, with Councilman Steve Riesch voting no. Councilman Jim Sullivan said the applicants “did not make this decision easy." “Everybody brings a quality we [were] looking for,” he said. Mayor Cynthia Billings noted that Reis must tender her resignation from the village Board of Public Affairs upon taking her seat on council, where she will serve out the remainder of Chambers’ term, through Dec. 31, 2025.

    OTHER ACTIONS

    • Canceled the Aug. 26 village council meeting for council’s annual summer hiatus.
    • Discussed the sale of the former village police station property, with no action taken at the meeting.
    • Discussed the renaming of Wales Drive in honor of former village service director Nate Miller, who died in May, with no action taken at the meeting.
