HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ - The Hasbrouck Heights Board of Education approved Vincenzo Barchini as the new Hasbrouck Heights High School principal during Thursday night's meeting. He will replace Linda Simmons who announced her retirement from the district in March 2024.
The Board approved Barchini to begin on August 1, 2024. He is the current Director of Guidance & Testing. Previously, he was the Vice Principal under Simmons.
During the public comments, Euclid School principal Michael Sickels praised the service of Simmons, who had a 30-year career, 22 of which were in Hasbrouck Heights, in Euclid School, middle school, and high school.
"She has been my boss, my mentor, and now I call her my friend," he said. "She has done an outstanding job always putting the students first."
Teacher Eileen Oettinger spoke on behalf of the Hasbrouck Heights Education Association, to "welcome Mr. Barchini as our next high school principal. We look forward to working with him in his new role."
Barchini then thanked Superintendent Dr. Jillian Torrento and the Board "for your support for the opportunity."
"I'm super grateful, super thankful, incredibly humbled for the opportunity," he said. "I'm passionate about what I do. I'm happy where I do it. I love it here."
"Linda (Simmons), I'm going to miss terribly. She's like family to me. I love her dearly," he continued. "Without her, there's a good chance I wouldn't be in this position."
"I'm really looking forward to getting back to school in the fall," he said. "I'm just excited for the opportunity to keep helping push us forward."
