Voters asked to renew tax for Ross-Augusta Fire Department, possible vehicle purchases
KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI -- Voters will weigh in on continuing a tax to fund firefighting services in Kalamazoo County’s Ross Township. The Ross-Augusta Fire Department is encouraging residents to vote in the upcoming Tuesday, Aug. 6, election, to support a renewal of the its operating millage that expires Dec. 31.

Grand Rapids minority-focused venture capital fund searches for new managing director
Partners in the New Community Transformation Fund expect to have a new managing director on board by the middle of September. Ollie Howie departed in June from the Grand Rapids-based venture capital fund that supports entrepreneurs of color. He had been involved in other funds while managing New Community and is now the managing partner at Roanoke, Va.-based Mount Auburn Venture Partners.

Poison Hemlock Caution Signs Remain at Jenison Park
GEORGETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 24, 2024) – The signs are still out for a danger at a park near Jenison. Earlier this year, residents living near Maplewood Park off of 12th Avenue noticed something unusual growing in the area, but thought that it was just hogweed. Georgetown Township parks officials began monitoring the situation, and around the Independence Day holiday, it was determined that the growth was actually poison hemlock, and warning signs were posted for the park and the adjacent splash pad.
