Megan Miller hired to lead special services for ISD 728

    2024-03-25

Megan Miller, current director of Special Services at Hastings Public Schools and a former principal in Northeast Metro District 916, will join ISD 728 as its new director of Special Services, pending approval by the ISD 728 School Board.

“We are thrilled to welcome Megan to our team,” Superintendent Dan Bittman said. “Her expertise, dedication to all students, and experience in special education will be invaluable. Megan’s arrival comes at a crucial juncture for us. With the ongoing growth of our district, our commitment to meeting the needs of all learners, and our new community developed strategic plan, her expertise will be crucial. Equally important is our increasing need to provide guidance, training and support to and for our special education and general education staff and leadership.”

Miller, of Roseville, has been in Special Education Services for more than a decade, serving as a supervisor in the Shakopee school system prior to joining Northeast Metro 916 in White Bear Lake as an assistant principal and then, eventually, a principal. She moved to Hastings Public Schools during the COVID-19 pandemic, starting there in 2020.

She replaces former ISD 728 Director Erin Jensen.

Miller did her undergraduate work at Purdue University (Indiana), where she majored in communications, earning her bachelor’s in 1999. She found a home in education, receiving her masters of education in special education from the University of Minnesota in 2003. She earned her director of special education license from the University of Minnesota in 2010.

“Megan brings a wealth of experience in program development to the role,” said Assistant Superintendent Jamie Nord. “With a specialized focus on students requiring intensive behavioral programming and transition services, her expertise aligns well with our goals and future plans as a district. What sets her apart is not only her impressive professional background, but also her leadership philosophy, centered on fostering relationships and lightening the load for others through efficient systems and structures. We eagerly anticipate the positive impact Megan will undoubtedly make within our educational community.”

Miller is looking forward to joining the ISD 728 community.

“I am extremely excited and honored for the opportunity to join the team at ISD 728,” Miller said. “... I am eager to begin partnering with our community to carry out the district’s mission and core values, ensuring we are fulfilling our commitments to our students, staff, and families. I look forward to having time and space to continue to foster positive relationships that will be the foundation of the great work we will accomplish together.”
