No injuries in two Orange structure fires Monday
ORANGE, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — No injuries have been reported from two structure fires that broke out Monday evening at 133 South Main Street and 161 East Main Street in Orange. Reports came in around 6:41 p.m. of an attic fire on East Main Street and crews found an electrical fire. The fire was quickly extinguished with minimal damage to the home, leaving it habitable.

WESTFIELD – Their ball players might be little in stature, but Westfield Little League completed a tall task. The Westfield Little League Baseball 9-Year-Olds exploded for 14 runs in the third inning en route to a mercy-shortened, 17-4 win over Longmeadow to capture the District 2 championship title early Saturday, July 13 at Ralph E. Sanville Memorial Field (Cross Street).
Pittsfield Working on Decades-Old Drainage Issue in Ward 3
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city is working to solve a more than 30-year-old drainage problem on Newell Street. The Public Works and Utilities committee heard an update Monday on a project to address flooding at 9 Newell St. Water runoff reaching the drainage outlet behind the property is flooding it, unable to reach an intermittent stream meant to carry that runoff.

Dog fence damaged after vehicle accident
GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — A portion of the dog park at the Green River Park on Petty Plain Road in Greenfield was closed Friday afternoon after a car accident that resulted in the destruction of part of the fencing. The fence was allegedly struck by a driver operating under the influence. Greenfield Recreation Department will update when the park is reopened.

Cooling centers opening due to heat wave
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Due to high temperatures this week, several communities will have a number of cooling centers open. In Chicopee, the C3 Unit on Center Street, the C3 Unit on Chicopee Street, and the RiverMills Senior Center will be open Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition, the city’s public library will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and the police department lobby on Church Street is open 24 hours a day.
Kitchen fire extinguished by Orange firefighters Friday
ORANGE, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Friday night just before 8 p.m. Orange fire was dispatched to a reported stove top fire that was believed to be extinguished. When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the front door and attic vent, finding an active fire at the stovetop and surrounding area. Crews were able to extinguish the fire and safely locate a dog hiding under a bed. No injuries were reported.

Mouse nest causes A/C fire at Leyden home
LEYDEN, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — An exterior air conditioner unit caught fire at a home on Greenfield Road in Leyden Thursday evening. Crews were dispatched to the scene at 5:05 p.m. and found a burned thermostat and the A/C fire, caused by a mouse nest in the A/C unit. Firefighters from Leyden, Bernardston, Colrain and Bernardston police responded to the scene.
