Southern Miss baseball starting third baseman Gabe Broadus is no longer on the team, a program spokesperson confirmed to the Hattiesburg American.

According to a source, Broadus is stepping away from baseball.

The source was granted anonymity because an announcement was never made publicly. Broadus could not be reached for comment.

Broadus, a junior, started 46 of Southern Miss’ 63 games at third base. He improved greatly as the season went on, elevating his batting average from .218 in mid-April to .271 by the season’s end. He never homered in his 155 at-bats, but his .432 on-base percentage was the third highest on the team. One of Broadus’ best performances came in the Sun Belt tournament championship game, when he went 3-for-4 with one walk and four runs in the 14-11 win against Georgia Southern .

A Wilmer, Alabama, native, Broadus played his first two seasons at Pearl River Community College and won the 2022 NJCAA DII national championship.

Three other players made starts at third base last season: Eli Collins, Nick Monistere and Seth Smith. Collins transferred to William Carey , while Monistere and Smith are returning to Southern Miss in 2025.
