HATTIESBURG, Miss. ( WHLT ) – The City of Hattiesburg held a ribbon-cutting on Wednesday, July 17 for the newly renovated Hope Park.

Located on the corner of Katie Avenue and Arledge Street, Hope Park was originally constructed in 1999 by a group of volunteer officers, including Chief Hardy Sims, who sought donations from local businesses to create a safe space for children to play right next to the police station.

Over time, the park fell into disrepair. Officials said Parks and Recreation Director Betsy Mercier prioritized its restoration.
