    Hattiesburg man arrested for animal cruelty

    HATTIESBURG, Miss. ( WHLT ) – Hattiesburg police arrested a 31-year-old man for animal cruelty.

    Investigators said they responded to a location on Park Place on Wednesday, July 17 after they received a report that a person harmed a dog.

    They identified a person of interest at Lohan De Freitas, of Hattiesburg, who was taken into custody for questioning, leading to his arrest.

    De Freitas was charged with one count of attempted aggravated animal cruelty and booked into the Forrest County Jail.

    Hattiesburg Police Animal Control Division removed the dog from the residence and transported it to a local animal hospital for medical evaluation. The dog’s injuries were reported to be non-life threatening.
