Hattiesburg Zoo welcomed another baby zebra just two weeks after another was born.

This time it's a boy. The zebra was born around 1 a.m. Monday to mother, 4-year-old Safara and father, 7-year-old Bakari. Bakari also is the father of the female foal, born July 14.

The female foal and her mother, 3-year-old Samira, were in the barn when the latest zebra was born.

Zoo officials said the latest foal was up and walking in less than 15 minutes.

The male foal has not been named. The female foal was named Jasira by zookeepers, which means, “bold and brave,” zoo officials said in a news release.

“Jasira’s name tracks with her personality and behavior,” Kristen Moore, director of animal care at Hattiesburg Zoo, said in the release. “Jasira is wide open on the Veldt, and seemingly has no fear.”
