It was an interesting day for July’s last day. A few rounds of storms occurred in a few hometowns. But other hometowns didn’t receive a single drop. This is very typical of the ring of fire pattern we’re in thanks to the clusters of storms. Indianapolis also took a little while longer to heat thanks to the extended cloud cover of the day. Racehorse owners sue national organization over tax assessments in Iowa
(Des Moines, Iowa) – Two racehorse owners at Polk County’s Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino are suing the national nonprofit horseracing organization that collects taxes and fees from owners. The Iowa Capital Dispatch reports Joseph A. Kelly of Des Moines, a thoroughbred racehorse owner who owns three horses that race at Prairie Meadows, and Douglas L. Anderson of Arkansas, who owns two horses that race at Prairie Meadows, are suing the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa. HISA is a nonprofit corporation based in Lexington, Kentucky, to which the federal government has delegated the power to assess taxes and fees against all trainers, owners, breeders, jockeys, racetracks, veterinarians, and other people by a state racing commission.

18-year-old pleads guilty to lesser charges for crash that killed 17-year-old passenger
DES MOINES, Iowa — An 18-year-old has pleaded guilty for his role in adeadly Jasper County crash from last August. Authorities say Benjamin Kelne, of Grinnell, was driving and rolled his car. His passenger, 17-year-old Chloe Hutchcraft, died from her injuries. Hutchcraft was a senior at Montezuma High School.
