An 18-year-old man was identified Tuesday as the prime suspect in a deadly shooting in Rockland County .

Yandie Martinez, a Haverstraw resident, is wanted for the killing of Christian Alvarado, 29 , in Haverstraw on Monday afternoon, the local police department announced on Facebook.

Alvarado, a Pomona resident, was found dead at an intersection at approximately 4 p.m., police said. His car rolled through an intersection and slammed into a parked vehicle, after which he was found outside his car suffering from gunshot wounds, according to investigators.

“The shooting was not random ,” Haverstraw Police Chief John Gould told the Rockland/Westchester Journal News. “Suspect and victim knew each other.”

Martinez was described as a 6-foot, 170-pound man with black hair and brown eyes. A wanted poster showed him with distinctive neck and arm tattoos . Authorities warned he should be considered armed and dangerous.

The exact relationship between Martinez and Alvarado remains unclear, and police did not elaborate on what details led them to publicly identify Martinez as a suspect .

Officers interviewed a “person of interest” on Monday night but released him, Chief Gould told the Journal News.

There have now been four homicides in Rockland County in 2024, according to the paper.
