A toddler in Pomona was critically injured when he was hit by a car Friday morning, according to police. It marks the seventh accident so far this year in Rockland County where a child was hit by some kind of vehicle. It happened on Marion Court around 9 a.m. in Pomona. The Haverstraw police chief says the 19-month-old boy was walking outside when he was hit by the car. The driver did stay on the scene and police are investigating this as an accident. The driver has not been charged. The toddler is in critical condition. This accident marks the second kind of incident involving children getting hit by cars in the last month in Haverstraw alone. On June 26, a 13-year-old boy was hit and killed by a car while he was riding his bike in Pomona. At the county level, it's the seventh accident of its kind so far this year. "It's always sad and it seems like over the last couple of weeks, there has been an uptick in this throughout the county," says Haverstraw Police Chief John Gould. Chief Gould tells News 12 this uptick in these kinds of accidents could be due to more children being out of school for the summer and outside. He is urging drivers to keep their heads on a swivel. The chief is also reminding parents to always keep an eye on their children. "
