Pirates of the Caribbean actor Tamayo Perry's last social media post was a tribute to his passion for surfing.

The actor tragically lost his life in a shark attack while catching waves during a surfing brea k. The unfortunate incident occurred on June 23 in Hawaii, claiming the life of the 49 year old actor. A passerby discovered him on the beach with several limbs missing. The individual immediately alerted emergency services, but despite their best efforts, paramedics at the scene were unable to bring him back to life.

Tamayo was not only an actor but also a lifeguard and co-owner of a surfing business called Oahu Surfing Experience, which he ran with his wife Emilia Perry. The company provides private surfing lessons.

On May 30, Tamayo shared a nostalgic post on the business's Instagram account, reminiscing about the time he graced the cover of a surfing magazine. The post featured a photo of him skillfully riding a wave, perfectly encapsulated within the curl of the water, reports the Mirror US .

The magazine cover read: "Surfing, The Beast of Tahiti, Teahupo'o Roar Again! ".

The post was captioned, "]#throwbackthursday To that #time when I simultaneously landed the #cover and the inside spread of #surfing #magazine. It was captioned: "Tamayo's #amazing, bucking foam ball ride.' This #image of me in the belly of the #beast, was taken by #photo @friedenpete during the trials of the 2000 Billabong Pro at Teahupo'o, #tahiti.""

"There was a lot of unfair #surf #politics that went down during that event and I lost out on name sake alone during what the ASP coined at the time, The #super #final," he continued. "I got the bad side of the juicing by the judges and lost to @kellyslater, #andyirons and Vetea David."

"They advanced to the main event and I was sent packing. Needless to say, I made this #miracle of a foam ball ride and was successfully and violently blown out into the safety of the channel. Ah Yes! #good times." - #extreme #wave junky. #love the #life . #enjoy the ride. #surfer #tamayoperry . #waves are #beautiful #blue #jewels from the #sea . #surf with the best" Tamayo concluded, while tagging Oahu Surfing Experience, 3rd Stone Hawaii, Waialua Surf Shop, Bushman Surfboards and Future Fins."

The late surfer was tragically killed in a fatal shark attack off the coast of Oahu in Hawaii on Sunday afternoon. He was not only a passionate surfer but also worked as a lifeguard for the City and County of Honolulu Ocean Safety division since 2016.

Shayne Enright of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department confirmed at a press conference on Sunday that rescue teams responded to a distress call about a surfer under a shark attack near Malaekahana Beach on Oahu's North Shore just before 1 p.m. local time. Perry was brought back to shore by the Honolulu Ocean Safety team via a jet ski, where he tragically passed away.

During a press meet, Honolulu Ocean Safety's Acting Chief, Kurt Lager, paid a heartfelt tribute to Perry, mentioning he was "a lifeguard loved by all."

"He's well known on the North Shore. He's a professional surfer known worldwide," Kurt added. "Tamayo's personality was infectious and as much as people loved him, he loved everyone else more."

Perry, also widely celebrated as a surf instructor, was notably seen in hit films like Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011), Blue Crush (2002), and held a role in the popular TV show Hawaii Five-O.
