We’re in for another hot and muggy start to the week. A few storms are passing through in the eastern side of the state and will begin to dissipate as the afternoon goes on. A few more showers are possible closer to the coastline this evening with some northerly flow from the Gulf high having influence.

Good day to everyone; I hope that you had a great week. Looking at our forecast today, one thing concerns me: the high temperatures expected this afternoon. A heat advisory is in effect for southern Louisiana and Mississippi this afternoon. High temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s, with heat index values expected to be as high as 110 degrees Fehernight. Looking at our rainfall chances, I suspect areas along and south of Interstate 20 will have the highest chance of seeing some rainfall this afternoon. Even so, these showers will be spotty in nature, so I would not count on seeing much rain today, even if you reside south of Interstate 20.

Forecast for Southern MS/AL/LA for 7/13/24: Heat advisory in effect for today with isolated thunderstorms this afternoon

It’s been quite a sizzling week for much of the U.S., and the heat is expected only to spread eastwards. Heat advisories have been issued from California to Massachusetts. Areas of the Western U.S. are starting to see some relief, while regions of the Mid-West and East Coast are expected to see above-average temperatures. Not only will temperatures be sizzling today for these regions, but the humidity will make it feel much hotter than it is. While parts of the county are baking today, other areas could see severe weather. Areas around the Great Lakes and Upper Midwest are in the bullseye for severe thunderstorms today, with high winds and large hail being the primary threats.

Looking at the maps this morning, expect scattered storms in the afternoon and early evening. This may impact some of the same spots that picked up a fair bit of rain last night, too. Aside from that, it will be hot and humid, with heat indices in the triple digits. Again.
