Drone technology to aid restoration, resilience of Native Hawaiian fishponds
Scientists and kiaʻi loko (fishpond practitioners) have a new tool to aid their efforts to restore and ensure the resilience of Native Hawaiian fishponds. Researchers from the University of Hawai'i (UH) and fishpond stewards in Hilo, Hawai'i published a study in the Journal of Remote Sensing highlighting the use of uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) to support integrated coastal zone management, including at cultural heritage sites.

Hawaiʻi Island Lane Closures: Week of July 1
The Department of Transportation announced the following Hawaiʻi Island lane closures during the week of July 1, 2024. There will be no contraflow or lane closures on Thursday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day, unless otherwise permitted. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.
