PLAYER TO WATCH: Hawley quarterback Keagan Ables

ABILENE, Texas ( BCH Sports ) – Keagan Ables threw 44 TD’s and over 3,400 yards in his first season as Hawley’s quarterback.

Now entering his senior year, every snap and every down requires more dedication.

Keagan Ables said, “I would say it’s pretty surreal, cause I mean, knowing that I only have one year left. I can’t take it for granted. I just got to play every down like it could be my last because you never know.”

A teammate like that makes a left tackle want to flatten any defender trying to cause pressure.

Hawley Left Tackle Kanyon Willeford says, “He’s incredibly humble. I’m not even sure why he’s so humble. I mean, he’s one heck of an athlete to be as quiet as he is you know.”

The qualities that describe number seven develop from his head coach and father Mitch Ables.
And for someone with the blessing of coaching his son, this fall holds extra weight compared to past ones.

“It’s tough, you know, you don’t really want to think about it,” Mitch says. “It seems like yesterday he was the ball boy for the high school team. You just take one day at a time. I pray all the time for time to slow down, but it’s not slowing down at all. (I’m) just expecting big things out of him, and I’m going to enjoy coaching him for one more year.”

Texas football preseason rankings placed Hawley as the seventh best team in class 2A division I; complimenting the Bearcat QB as someone who’s worth the price of a ticket.
