RONDA — East Wilkes’ girl’s soccer club dropped a 2-0 decision to North Wilkes on Thursday evening at Ebb Tharpe Field.

With the win, the Lady Vikings (1-1-1) avenged a 1-0 loss to the Lady Cardinals in the season opener.

East Wilkes, who also lost a 1-0 match at West Wilkes last Tuesday, fell to 1-2 in the early season in what was its final match on its home field this spring.

The rest of the Lady Cardinals’ home matches will be played on the pitch of Lowes Parks at Rivers Edge in Wilkesboro as the playing surfaces of all the Wilkes County, Yadkin County and Surry County high schools are preparing to be replaced with artificial turf.

Fellow Yadkin Valley girl’s soccer clubs Elkin and Forbush were shutout in their respective road matches on Friday night.

The Lady Elks fell to 1-2 in the nonconference schedule with a 9-0 loss to Wilkes Central while the Lady Falcons traveled to Davie County but dropped an 8-0 decision to fall to 0-3.

Fast start fuels Starmount past Lady Bulldogs

The Lady Rams remained unbeaten in the early season with a 3-1 win at Thomasville last Tuesday evening.

Coupled with a 0-0 draw with North Wilkes the night before, Starmount is now 1-0-1 this spring.

Behind goals from Amy Ocampo, Isabel Romero and Maribel Navarro, the Lady Rams built a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Romero, Liz Perez and Ashley Santos-Ramirez added assists in the match.

Starmount held a 22-2 shot on goals advantage as Emma Caudle collected one save in goal. The junior collected three saves in the draw against the Lady Vikings.
