Hayward police catch suspected car thieves with narcotics, burglary tools

( KRON ) — Multiple arrests were made in Hayward after a group allegedly stole a car from an apartment complex and were caught with a handgun and narcotics, the Hayward Police Department announced Tuesday.

Responding officers located the car trying to leave the area and successfully blocked it in, Hayward PD said. Three occupants sprung out of the car and ran in different directions.

Two suspects were chased down and caught, according to police, while the third person was able to flee. One of the suspects that was caught had a loaded and unregistered handgun, HPD said. Inside the stolen car was a "large quantity" of methamphetamine and burglary tools.

Hayward police arrested the two suspects for multiple charges including possession of a stolen vehicle, narcotics, gun violations and possession of burglary tools.
