Giving back with family fun in Hazleton

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — In Hazleton, it was a day for family fun while giving back.

The Paul and Lisa DeAngelo Family Foundation hosted its fourth Independence Charity Day at City View Park.

“In the last three years, we have been able to help over 30 different organizations, and we are supporting those organizations now, and in doing so, we have been able to impact the lives, in a positive way, of over 1,000 kids,” said Paul DeAngelo, Founder of the Paul and Lisa DeAngelo Family Foundation.

This event kicked off with a walk and run, and a number of family activities. Then continued into the day with music, food, a car display, and much more.

Money raised this year will benefit multiple community organizations, with the DeAngelo family matching all donations made today.

One of the youth teams that receives some of these funds, is headed up by Jason Gavinski, the President of Tri-County Little League. He is very appreciative of the donation, saying: “Every year the DeAngelos donate to all the youth. Without that, the organizations probably wouldn’t be able to operate the way they do.”

Former Miami Dolphins player, Vernon Carey, looks forward to attending this event every year.

“You’re serving the community. We’re giving back and we’re running. It’s a big day for me. Health is big, and I think it’s one of the most important things that people need to focus on,” Carey said.

The event on Thursday wrapped up at 5:00 p.m.
