DURHAM, N.C. – Head coach LeVelle Moton announced Nima Omidvar as the newest addition to the North Carolina Central University (NCCU) men’s basketball staff as an assistant coach ahead of the 2024-25 season. Omidvar brings a plethora of NCAA coaching experience after serving on collegiate staffs at Fordham University, George Washington University, the University of South Alabama, the University of Maryland, North Carolina State University, and Bowie State University before landing at NCCU.

Most recently in college athletics, Omidvar was an assistant coach at Coastal Carolina University from 2021-23 working closely with the forwards helping Essam Mostafa and Ginika Ojiako earn All-Sun Belt Conference postseason honors. Omidvar worked under Coastal Carolina’s head coach Cliff Ellis who retired with 831 wins in Division I, ranking ninth all-time in the NCAA for men’s basketball.

Before coaching in Conway, S.C. Omidvar spent one season as the director of operations at Fordham handling team travel, scheduling, budgets, on-campus recruiting and so much more. Fordham added to its win total in 2021-22 from the previous season climbing the NCAA NET rankings.

Handling similar duties as the director of operations while at Maryland (2014-18), Omidvar helped the program secure top-10 recruiting classes. The Terps reached the NCAA Tournament three consecutive seasons including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2016.

Omidvar worked as an assistant coach for George Washington (2019-20), South Alabama (2018-19) and Bowie State (2010-11) during the Bulldogs’ CIAA regular season championship season. While with George Washington he was also the recruiting coordinator landing James Bishop, first-team All-Atlantic 10 selection and the school’s third all-time leading scorer. Omidvar also helped with the development of Jamison Battle who signed with the Toronto Raptors.

As the NC State men’s basketball team video coordinator, Nima Omidvar was a part of three consecutive NCAA appearances for the Wolfpack (2011-14) advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2012. His coaching career began as a graduate assistant at Charlotte providing recruiting support, assisting with travel, and monitoring the 49ers’ academic progress.

With his experience in recruitment and development, Omidvar has recruited players from 24 countries and coached and developed 15 NBA players during his career, earning seven NCAA Tournament appearances.

Prior to switching gears to college athletics, Omidvar was the head coach at Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, Md., and was an assistant at St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C. and Paul IV Catholic High School in Fairfax, Va. He also coached in the AAU circuit with DC Team Takeover.

Aside from coaching high school and college players, Omidvar was the head coach and founder of Maryland’s Shell Shock alumni team. The team competed in the Basketball Tournament (TBT), a professional summer basketball competition with a grand prize of 1 million dollars to the winning team. The season was highlighted by a victory over Gatorverse in 2022, the University of Florida’s alumni team.

Omidvar is a native of Damascus, Md., and a graduate of the University of Maryland.
