FAU graduate transfer Daniel Richardson was announced as FAMU’s starting quarterback on Monday and Tuesday was in front of the media for the first time as QB1.

“I thought today was good.  We flew around and we made some great plays and attacked the ball,” Richardson said.

FAMU head coach James Colzie III announced him as the team’s starter for this weekend’s MEAC/SWAC Challenge.  This was after a tough battle since January with returning quarterback Junior Muratovic.

Richardson threw for over 2,000 yards for FAU last season, but as a graduate, watching FAMU win the Celebration Bowl made transferring to the school intriguing.

“ Just a winning culture. That’s the biggest thing. I watched Celebration Bowl. When I entered the portal, a lot of different schools offered me and this is one of the schools I looked at and I said, yeah, I played at FBS level two times. At the end of the day, why not come FCS and play right now?  So, that’s why I came here.”

This week was the first time that complete attention turned to Norfolk State ahead of Saturday’s showdown in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge at Center Parc Stadium in Atlanta, GA.

Colzie emphasizes that the quarterback competition was very close and in the end, Richardson had simply made more plays than Muratovic.

“Obviously, having our starting quarterback named, we had different plays being called for him…different kinds of scenarios that we went on where he mainly was with the ones. But, I thought Junior did an excellent job as well as running with the twos,” Colzie said.

Richardson’s selflessness shows in his approach to his teammates.

“I want to see everybody else happy. At the end of the day we’ve been going against each other every day, we’ve been going back and forth at different practices.  Now we’re going there as one, you know what I’m saying?  At the end of the day, we have FAMU across our chest and you know we want to make the city happy.  I have big shoes the fill coming in as the starting quarterback.”
