Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) is gearing up for one of the most anticipated rivalry games of the season against North Carolina A&T, and the team is feeling confident and prepared.

Coming off a 34-3 win over Bluefield State , WSSU head coach Robert Massey expressed his excitement for the matchup, emphasizing the importance of this game for both programs.

“This is more than just another game,” Massey stated. “It’s about bragging rights and showcasing the strength of our team.”

The players share this enthusiasm. Defensive back Justin Fleming, who kicked off his senior season with a pick-six against BSU, reflected on the significance of facing NC A&T.

“I’ve been looking forward to this game for a long time,” the Greensboro native said. “It’s in my hometown, so it’s going to be special to have that support from both sides.”

The energy is palpable as the team prepares to take on their historic rivals.

Wide receiver Myles Dillon echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need for relentless effort.

“We can’t get comfortable,”said Dillon, who caught a 56-yard touchdown. “This game is about playing every series, every down, and every quarter. As long as we do that, we can come out with the win,” Dillon commented.

Massey highlighted the depth and preparation of the team, noting the strides they’ve made in recent practices. “We’re ready, and we’re going to seize this moment. It’s not too big for us. We’ve got experienced players who know what it takes to compete at this level,” Massey concluded.

While WSSU and North Carolina A&T haven’t met since 2010, it has played North Carolina Central the last three years. The team’s recent experience playing against North Carolina Central has bolstered their readiness for this high-stakes encounter, Massey said.He pointed out that facing a strong team like NCCU in the past few years has helped WSSU acclimate to intense atmospheres.

“We’ve learned a lot from our experiences against Central. Those games were tough, but they prepared us for moments like this. We don’t want to let this opportunity slip away.”
