HBCU star quarterback Andrew Body suffers season-ending injury

Andrew Body, the most hyped transfer quarterback in HBCU football this offseason, is done after just one game.

The former Texas Southern star quarterback made his debut with Alabama State in the Orange Blossom Classic on Sunday. He rushed for 134 yards and two scores but he also injured his shoulder and will have season-ending arthroscopic surgery, according to HBCU Legends.

According to the report, Body will need additional anchor to one of the muscles supporting the rotator cuff. This marks the second year in a row that his season has ended after just one game.

Andrew Body made a significant impact during his time at Texas Southern University as a dual-threat quarterback. After joining the team in 2021, Body set the program’s single-season record for total offense, averaging 265.9 yards per game. He also ranked second in the SWAC and finished fourth all-time in single-season passing at Texas Southern, throwing for 2,017 yards. Known for his athleticism, he added 554 rushing yards and four touchdowns in 2022. His dynamic playmaking ability made him one of the top quarterbacks in the SWAC, earning him preseason accolades.

Body’s 2023 campaign was cut short due to a lingering shoulder injury, prompting him to take a medical redshirt. Following the season, Body entered the transfer portal. He was highly-sought after by many HBCU football programs, but ultimately committed to Alabama State University in 2024 to continue his career in the SWAC.  He will now look to recover and continue his career.
