    North Carolina A&T barely escapes WSSU in OT

    In a dramatic overtime clash, North Carolina A&T narrowly defeated Winston-Salem State University 27-20, showcasing a thrilling finish at Truist Stadium in Greensboro, North Carolina. The game began with both teams demonstrating strong defensive efforts. NCAT and WSSU each had a strong showing until the points began to rack up on the scoreboard.

    First Half

    WSSU took the early lead in the first quarter behind a Timothy Ruff 14 yard touchdown run. The PAT was no good. The Aggies responded with a 9 play 66 yard drive capped off with a Kevin White one yard touchdown run.

    NCAT would add a field goal as time expired in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 10-6 lead.

    Second Half

    Late in the third quarter the Aggies pieced together an 8 play 30 yard drive with White finding Laquan Veney for a 5 yard touchdown to make it 17-6, NCAT. But Winston-Salem State wasn’t deterred, Trevon Hester ran in a 37 yard touchdown with 38 seconds left in the third quarter to cut the lead down to 17-13.

    In the fourth quarter Daylin Lee put the Rams back on top with a three yard touchdown run, making the score 20-17 with 3:52 remaining in the game. But NCAT responded on the ensuing drive with a 15 play 61 yard drive that ended with Andrew Brown booting a 31 yard field goal as time expired to tie the game at 20, forcing overtime.

    Overtime

    In the overtime period, North Carolina A&T seized the moment. The Aggies executed a critical drive that culminated in a 7-yard touchdown pass from Kevin White to Laquan Veney. With the successful extra point by Andrew Brown, North Carolina A&T took a 27-20 lead.

    Winston-Salem had one final chance to respond but was unable to break through North Carolina A&T’s resolute defense. The game concluded with North Carolina A&T securing a hard-fought 27-20 victory.

    Key Performances

    North Carolina A&T : Kevin White was instrumental, throwing for 157 yards and a touchdown while also contributing with a key 7-yard touchdown pass in overtime. Wesley Graves led the rushing attack with 106 yards and a touchdown, and Andrew Brown’s crucial field goals proved to be decisive. The Aggies’ defense, particularly in overtime, played a pivotal role in their victory.

    Winston-Salem State : Trevon Hester was a standout performer with 79 rushing yards and one touchdown, including a key score that tied the game late. Daylin Lee passed for 122 yards but couldn’t find the end zone, while the Rams’ defense kept them in the game until the final moments.
