Howard University, the reigning MEAC champs, is set to take on Morehouse College in East Rutherford, New Jersey at home of the New York Giants and New York Jets of the NFL in a highly anticipated HBCU Classic at MetLife Stadium . The HBCU NY Classic.

After last year’s 65-19 win over Morehouse, Howard comes into this game with confidence, ready to showcase its talent on a national stage. This game isn’t just about the rivalry—it’s about highlighting the legacy and culture of HBCU football.

One player drawing attention is Howard’s running back Eden James . If the name sounds familiar, it’s because he’s the son of NFL Hall of Famer Edgerrin James. Eden is stepping out of his father’s shadow and making a name for himself, especially after scoring a touchdown earlier this season against Rutgers . Coach Larry Scott has praised his work ethic on the weekly MEAC coach’s call, saying, “Eden’s not just riding on his last name—he’s putting in the work every day.”

His performance will be crucial as Howard looks to establish its running game and control the tempo against Morehouse.

For Howard to win again, it needs to dominate in the trenches. Morehouse College has struggled to stop the run, and Howard’s offensive line has a prime opportunity to take control. If Howard can establish the ground game and wear down Morehouse’s defense by keeping the ball in their hands, it’ll give the Bison a huge advantage.

On defense, Howard must put pressure on Morehouse’s quarterback and prevent big plays. Keeping Morehouse’s passing attack in check will be key, and the Bison defense has shown it can step up in big moments.

This game goes beyond just the score—it’s a celebration of HBCU pride. As the reigning MEAC champs, Howard is carrying the flag for HBCU athletics and looking to continue its winning ways while showcasing the strength and talent within the HBCU football landscape on a national platform. While Morehouse comes in as the underdog team of one of the biggest brands in the culture.

The HBCU NY Classic will be broadcast live, on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 3 p.m. ET on CNBC and Peacock.
