JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State raced to a three-touchdown lead early in the first half of the Boombox Classic and never looked back in a 33-15 victory over Southern University in non-conference action on Saturday night at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The win was the fifth consecutive for Jackson State in the series.

Jackson State (2-1) used 201 yards on the ground by seven different ball carriers on Saturday to run out to a 23-3 halftime lead it would not relinquish. Irv Mulligan led the team with 53 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries in his season debut, while J.D. Martin added 37 yards on 12 carries in his debut. Ahmad Miller added 35 yards and Travis Terrell Jr. 34 in the win.

Jacobian Morgan led the offense with 153 passing yards and a touchdown as the Tigers hit eight different receivers. Isaiah Spencer led the way with five receptions for 41 yards, while Joanes Fortilien added 60 yards on three receptions.

Day Day Bright led the Tigers with eight tackles, all solo. Reid Pulliam added six and Joshua Nobles six with 2.5 sacks. The Tigers accounted for two turnovers, and interceptions from Ke’Vric Wiggins Jr. and Dimonyia Lacey .

• 2nd Quarter (2:49) – Miller 30 -yd run (Baeza kick), JSU 23-0.
• 2nd Quarter (0:41) – Joshua Griffin 29-yard field goal , JSU 23-3.
• 3rd Quarter (9:21) – Baeza 39-yard field goal, JSU 26-3.
• 3rd Quarter (6:10) – Kobe Dillion 3-yd run (Unsuccessful 2-pt conversion), JSU 26-9.
• 3rd Quarter (2:23) – Mulligan 5-yd run (Baeza kick), JSU 33-9.
• 4th Quarter (7:31) – Jermaine Minor Jr. 16-yd pass from Bodden (unsuccessful 2-pt conversion) , JSU 33-15.
