North Carolina A&T’s struggles continued in its matchup against South Carolina State, as the MEAC squad took control of the game for a 45-25. Despite some bright moments, A&T’s offensive inconsistencies and defensive lapses proved costly, leading to its defeat.

The win was the first for South Carolina State against North Carolina A&T since 2014. It snapped a four-game losing streak to its long-time HBCU rival and former MEAC foe.

The game began with promise for A&T, as it managed to keep the contest close through much of the first half, heading into halftime with the score tied. However, South Carolina State came out strong in the third quarter, taking control of the game with a decisive drive. Their running game, which had already been a challenge for A&T to contain, broke through with a series of powerful rushes, capping off the drive with a touchdown to break the deadlock. South Carolina State’s offensive line created large gaps, allowing their running backs to gain chunk yardage and wear down the Aggies’ defense.

In response, North Carolina A&T struggled to get back on track offensively. The Aggies failed to answer South Carolina State’s touchdown, as their drives stalled due to key mistakes and an inability to convert on third downs. SC State’s defense also tightened up, shutting down A&T’s rushing lanes and putting consistent pressure on the quarterback, which further hindered any comeback attempts.

South Carolina State capitalized on A&T’s turnovers and lack of discipline, pulling ahead with key plays on both sides of the ball. By the time the fourth quarter rolled around, SC State had taken full control, sealing the game with a crucial late touchdown after another strong drive.

SC State improved to 2-2 on the season, getting its first home win under new head coach Chennis Berry. North Carolina A&T dropped to 1-4 on the season has been outscored 111-47 against HBCUs from the MEAC, including last week’s 66-24 loss to NC Central.
