It appears Hampton University brass has seen enough to hand over the reigns of its football program.

Trent Boykin, currently the interim head coach at the CAA school, will be named the program’s next head coach. That news came from the football program’s Twitter/X account on Tuesday night.

Boykin has led the team to a 3-3 record over his six-game tenure as the interim head coach. He was installed in that position this summer when former head coach Robert Prunty parted ways with the program.

Trent Boykin joined the Pirate staff in 2020 after serving as running game coordinator at Akron of the Mid-American Conference from 2012-18. A Jim Tressell disciple, Boykin, a veteran of 28 years of collegiate coaching experience including 10 years on the FBS level at Akron, Boston College, and Ball State.
