Readers respond to best high school team nicknames in Alabama
The Slocomb Red Tops were the most common school mentioned by readers in reaction to Al.com’s list last week of the greatest team nicknames in Alabama high schools. AL.com named the Highland Home Flying Squadron as the best high school nickname in the state. The list also included the Percy Julian Phoenix, the Orange Beach Makos, the Spanish Fort Toros, the Arab Knight, the Gulf Shores Dolphins and the Paul Bryant Stampede.
Alabama to provide $15M in grants for industrial site development
(The Center Square) – Seven economic development organizations have been awarded $15.5 million in Growing Alabama grants for industrial sites by the Renewal of Alabama Commission. The Growing Alabama program provides a one-for-one tax credit to taxpayers who contribute to economic development organizations for approved projects. ALDOT announces grants for municipal airports
The Alabama Department of Transportation announced July 22 it has awarded more than $22,000 in state funding to three municipal airports for improvements. The Russellville Municipal Airport in Russellville, Ala., will receive $50,130 from the Federal Aviation Administration and $2,785 from a state grant to install runway end identifier lights for two of the airport’s runways. The City of Russellville will provide $2,785 in matching local funds for a total project value of $55,700.
