    Upcoming Fairs and Festivals in Michigan during Sept. 1 - Sept. 8

    School is ready to start for the youngsters in Michigan if it hasn’t already. But, there is one more fun long weekend to have a great time with your family. There are festivals for music, food, cars, beer, and even logging. Whatever you are in the mood for, there is a festival Labor Day weekend for you and your family. Here are the latest upcoming fairs and festivals around Michigan for the week of Sept. 1 - Sept. 8.

    Detroit Jazz Festival 9/3-9/6

    Experience the world’s largest free jazz festival, featuring world-class talent, over Labor Day weekend. The Detroit Jazz Festival is free to music fans looking to revel in the artistry and improvisation of jazz legends, rising stars, legacy, and homecoming artists. This year the festival is going virtual, being streamed and broadcasted “live.” You can catch it all on the Detroit Jazz Festival’s Facebook Live, YouTube, Detroit Jazz Fest LIVE app, and detroitjazzfest.org. There are more than 60 performances as remarkable and diverse as the genre itself, as well as spontaneous late-night jam sessions, offer something for everyone to listen to this weekend.

    2021 Logging Festival 9/3-9/5 - Newaygo

    Newaygo's Annual Labor Day Weekend Logging Festival is happening this year! Come out and experience the Lumberjack Competition, marvel at the Chainsaw Carvings, browse through the Arts & Crafts Vendors, watch the Parade, and so much more. If you have the skill join up to participate in the Elder's Mid Michigan Professional & Amateur Competition. The Logging Festival is at Shaw Park at 142 E. Croton Drive in Newaygo.

    Michigan Bean Festival 9/3-9/6 - Fairgrove

    Beans, anyone? How about a Bean Festival where Bean soup is given away daily. There is a Michigan State Bean Queen crowned and plenty of entertainment tents for bingo and music for you to enjoy. Plus, you can see a classic car show, mud bog, craft show, and demolition derby, all in Mulberry Park at 1933 Liberty Street in Fairgrove.

    It is another weekend for the largest Cars and Coffee in Michigan! This massive monthly tradition of auto-enthusiasts is gathering this Labor Day Weekend to showcase their vehicles! The event is Kid-friendly and FREE. Public/Spectator parking (non-show car) is available in the South lot directly across the street from M1 Concourse. Although there is no address for the parking lot, it is directly across from 394 Howland Ave, Pontiac 48341. Signage will be directing flow into the Spectator lot.

    Come out to the Inaugural Sunflower Festiva this weekend at Blake's Orchard & Cider Mill. You will be able to stroll through the fields of sunflowers, shop from the open-air artisan market featuring over 100 local artists, take a ride to the sunflower field, and receive access to the sunflower maze with endless photo opportunities. Tickets are $7 per person with kids 10 & under are free. With your ticket, you get access to the Artisan Market, Train Ride to Sunflower Field & Sunflower Maze, Free parking, and lovely live music to enjoy, and so much more!

    This Labor Day Weekend come out to the Renaissance Festival grounds to experience the Viking Invasion. All barbarians are invited to participate in pillaging the village. This will be a weekend filled with a competitive spirit and tons of new experiences. If you have an awesome beard or mustache to showcase, enter into the contest to win some great prizes!

    Bell's Beer Copper Harbor Trails Fest 9/3-9/6 - Copper Harbor

    The Copper Harbor Trails Fest takes place on Labor Day Weekend in Copper Harbor. The annual Labor Day Weekend event features Enduro races, short (~15 miles) and long (~30 miles) XC courses, Downhill Race, a Junior MTB race (for kids 13 & under), and a 10K Trail Run. At this festival up north, you will be able to enjoy music, beer, and good times. If you are in the U.P., take some time out to spend a wonderful weekend in Copper Harbor at the Bell’s Beer Copper Harbor Trails Fest.

    Marquette Area Blues Fest 9/3-9/5

    During Labor Day Weekend, another great festival in the Upper Peninsula is the Marquette Blues Fest at Mattson Lower Harbor Park. The festival features world-class blues performers on the main stage, artist workshops, a dance floor, several local food vendors, and a fully stocked beverage tent featuring some of Marquette's best-crafted brews.

    One of the biggest Labor Day Weekend events I look forward to each year is the Soaring Eagle Arts, Beats & Eats, which features 200 musical acts! Some of the big names performing this weekend are Stone Temple Pilots, Neon Trees, Justin Moore, Rise Against, Bobby Brown, and the Gin Blossoms. This celebration of art, music, food, and community takes place in Downtown Royal Oak along Fourth Street. Admission to the festival is $5 before 3 p.m. and $10 after 3 p.m. The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and closes on Labor Day at 9 p.m.
