The hottest day of the week comes today and humidity will make it feel even worse
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Temperatures will take a step up today across the area with highs ranging from the lower 90s northeast to the low/mid 100s south and west. But with such high dew points into the upper 60s and low/mid 70s, the heat index will be very high. Most places will peak with a heat index between 100° and 115° with the highest in southeastern areas. A few lingering spotty showers over Central Nebraska will push toward East Central Nebraska later this morning into the afternoon. Late this afternoon, new isolated thunderstorms will try to fire up over North Central Nebraska. These will try to push east southeast, across northern and eastern portions of the Local4 area this evening and overnight. While there is a chance of large hail and perhaps an isolated tornado, damaging wind gusts may be the biggest threat. Some could be significant. This is not a for sure thing, but something a few forecast models are hinting at. The farther west and south that you go, the lower your chances get.
