Concordia seniors Jackson Munter and Bella Schmid, both music education majors, got to use their musical gifts to serve others this summer. Both volunteered at Mount Olive Lutheran Church’s summer band camp, a week-long creative experience hosted in Rockford, Ill., each year. The camp takes place through one of Mount Olive’s unique ministries, the Christian Arts Institute, which also offers private music lessons and art classes year-round. Schmid’s father, John (‘93), serves as the director of the institute.
Jury returns guilty verdict for Lincoln man charged in toddler’s death
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Lincoln man accused of killing a 22-month-old boy in 2023 has been found guilty. After nearly two weeks on trial, a jury returned a verdict in the case of 33-year-old Joshua Tackett on Tuesday. The jury found him guilty on two counts, committing child abuse intentionally causing death and distribution of a controlled substance near a school.

Hunts Horse sentenced to 88+ years for Fonner Park murder, Kelly’s sentencing postponed
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — The man convicted of killing a horse trainer at a Fonner Park stable will spend at least eight decades in prison. Hall County District Court Judge Patrick Lee handed down the sentence for Logan Hunts Horse on Tuesday morning. Lee sentenced Hunts Horse to 64-94 years for his second-degree murder conviction and 24-40 years for his weapons violation. The terms will be served consecutively and add up to 88-134 years.

The high school ELA classroom has been busy covering a vast amount of content. English 9 students just wrapped up Romeo and Juliet. On the last day of Act V, students utilized the stage to act out the final moments of Romeo and Juliet. English 10 students are focusing on the question, “What is the relationship between power and freedom?” Students have read texts by Malala Yousafzai, John F. Kennedy, and Franklin D. Roosevelt. English 11 students have been working hard to decipher between who v. whom and using pronoun references correctly. The English 12 students just started a new unit on what types of experiences allow people to discover who they really are. Finally, the journalism students are working on implementing new equipment into their content creation, like bluetooth microphones, to promote the latest school events. Body Found on Site at NE Lincoln ADM Plant
LINCOLN–(KFOR July 30)–Lincoln Police are investigating what led to the death of a 47-year-old man found on site at ADM east of 70th and Cornhusker early Tuesday morning. According to LPD, officers were called after 5:15am, where it was determined the man was reported missing about five hours earlier by an acquaintance. The man was found dead on the property and he was an ADM employee.
